Dear Sister,

Just a few lines to let you know that I received your most welcome letter in this morning and was pleased to hear from you. You say that father gets very cross because I do not tell him everything. I would have told him that I had three stripes before but I have reasons for not doing so. The reason I have said nothing about it is that I am only holding them temporarily while I am in England. The picture is of the last party that I went to in the city of Bath with, and had a real up top turn. I cannot tell you much news so I will close with fondest love to yourself and all at home.

I remain your loving brother Ern.
