Dear Annie,

I received your welcome letter yesterday and pleased to hear from you. I am very sorry to see Arthur's factory closed owing to glass shortage. It won't be long now before this cruel war will be over and then everybody will fall back into their old groove again. I don't think there will be many wars after this is finished. Fritz will be crippled for centuries and the League of Nations will put a stop to all wars in future. We are still in great battle at present. We are having a few days rest, on the big river having a ... and rest generally in a few days. We will be in line again. Our division suffered very heavy in last stint, mostly ... but they the majority will be back in a few ... Our killed was light. We captured many prisoners and guns and the guns we fired round and tried on Fritz using his gas ... on himself. One 15" gun we captured was a big beauty- it is now in Paris on exhibition. In fact, it has been presented to Paris by the Australians. The Aussies are best troops in this war and don't forget the other troops now it and our diggers are the families of every soldier. I am A1 and terrible well. No plea to crack.

Love to Annie from Ted.
