Dear Friend. Among publishers and distributors of picture postcards, the most interesting producer was the Detroit Publishing Company. They sold the BEST VIEWS of the most widely DIVERSE PLACES and the FINEST COLOR PRINTING that could be bought in America. Detroit was a pioneer in the business. The earliest cards (when one can find them) were copyrighted under the name 'The Photochrome Co.' in 1898. Cards were not numbered.

Selected from the extensive collections of the National Trust Historic Postcards Collection, a collection located at the University of Maryland. We encourage you to find out more about their collections and visit their website at [digital.lib.umd.edu/ntlpostcards](https://digital.lib.umd.edu/ntlpostcards/?utm_source=PostcardTree&utm_medium=referral).
